About Us

Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts, located in Monroe, serves kindergarten through fifth-grade students. We are a Leader in Me Lighthouse School that supports our students in developing their academic, leadership and artistic skills. Lighthouse schools must meet nine standards that show the teaching of leadership principles, the development of leadership culture and educational system alignment.

Meet Our School Leaders

Amanda Stinchcomb, Principal

About Mrs. Stinchcomb

Amanda Stinchcomb earned an undergraduate degree from Drexel University and began her teaching career in Philadelphia Public Schools. She earned a master's degree in elementary education from the University of Pennsylvania before moving to North Carolina.

Mrs. Stinchcomb has taught in UCPS at Wingate Elementary and Western Union Elementary, serving in both classroom teacher and curriculum support roles. In 2017, she was named Union County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She was the EPIC Grant Coordinator and was selected for the High Point University Leadership Academy where she earned a master's degree in school administration. She joined the staff at Monroe High School as an assistant principal in 2021. She is proud to lead alongside the fabulous staff at Benton Heights where exciting work to continue the tradition of strong academics, leadership, and arts education is underway.

Mrs. Stinchcomb lives in Union County with her husband, Shawn, and sons, Wyatt and Ben. She enjoys time with her family, reading, and traveling to experience new places.

Dr. Geraldine Bacchus, Assistant Principal

About Dr. Bacchus

Dr. Bacchus began her teaching career in the New York City School System. In 2000, after relocating to North Carolina, she joined Union County Public Schools.

During her time with Union County, Dr. Bacchus worked at Walter Bickett Elementary, where she focused on teaching kindergarten and first grade. She also served in various roles, including literacy intervention (K–5), math intervention (grades 3–5), summer school site coordinator, and assistant principal. These experiences allowed her to strengthen her leadership skills, support student growth, manage behavior, assess progress, and help colleagues implement best practices.

In 2022, Dr. Bacchus joined the dedicated and passionate staff and community at Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts. She considers herself an instructional leader who thrives on active involvement in the learning process for both children and adults.

Dr. Bacchus earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the City University of New York, a master’s degree in elementary education from Pfeiffer University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University. In addition, she is a National Board-Certified educator.
